The February Lady sweater is officially finished! (On the last day of February, no less!) Rachel got the soft cotton yarn for Christmas and some of her relatives expressed doubt about the yarn=sweater equation. So, here's evidence that handknits are still alive!
Now on to new projects, like baby clothes (for a friend!) and heaps of spinning.
Jake's latest project is this massive grizzly beard (lichen-growing simulation depicted here):
Last weekend we optimistically traveled more than an hour from home to visit two lakes near Brown Mountain (shown below), only to discover that everything higher than Ashland is covered in three feet of snow. Still, it was about 55*, so we ate some string cheese and watched the cross-country skiers.
This weekend we hiked a new (to us) web of trails at the far end of Ashland. Cloudy weather made for terrible photos, but we had a great time with our pals Natalie and Kenny. Other happenings this weekend included a baby shower for a friend and another round of orchestra concerts for Jake.
Next Friday Jacob's brother Lucas comes to visit! We're crossing our fingers for good weather and grateful for another chance to share the best town in America. Expect more interesting photos next time!
